A broadband test measures the speed and strength of your internet connection. It does this by running several consecutive tests that analyze different aspects of your internet connection, such as ping (latency), download speed, and upload speed. Each of these values represents specific characteristics of the connection, which you can read more about in the paragraph after the next. These should help you understand the final results of the speed test in a more detailed way, but before we get to that, we first want to discuss how each test is conducted.
When experiencing speed issues, it’s important to troubleshoot correctly to pinpoint the root cause. During troubleshooting, several factors, such as Wi-Fi limitations and hardware/Router limitations that could be causing the issue. Therefore, it’s essential to follow specific steps:
1. Connect your computer directly to your fiber converter mounted on the wall by Open Infra.
Below is a recommended guide on which network cable to use when performing a speed test. Always perform the test while directly connected to one of several selected LAN outlets in your fiber converter with a network cable capable of 1000 Mbps or higher. For tests involving speeds greater than 1000 Mbps, always use a network cable capable of supporting speeds above 1000 Mbps, such as Cat6a and 10G LAN outlet.
Please note: if you been provided a router with your fiber installation from Open Infra, it comes with a Cat5e cable, which supports speeds up to 1000 Mbps.

2. Download the speedtest application on your computer https://www.speedtest.net/apps/windows
Always use the Speedtest app when performing the test. Follow the link above to download the application.
For more advanced users you can also use our iperf3 and wget servers for speed testing.

3. Select server Sumofiber or Kuducom if located in Florida or Open Infra server if located in Texas.
- Always use the provided servers. If a speed test is performed using other servers, we cannot guarantee reliable results, as we do not own those servers and cannot ensure their availability or performance.
4. Run Speedtest on three different occasions, Morning day and night
After testing, if your speed is significantly lower than the promised amount (by more than 15%), you should contact your ISP to have them check your connection. create a trouble ticket and provide them with necesary documentations such as pictures.
